 How to Catch Mew: A Mythical Discovery

What is Mew, why is it so special?

Mew is a Psychic-type Mythical Pokemon. Mew is special because it is said that Mew has the DNA of every single Pokemon within it's body. This allows Mew to learn and use every attack. Mew can also turn itself invisible having it's whole body be unseen. Many Pokemon scientists believe that Mew is the ancestor of Pokemon. Mew is the last Pokemon in the Kanto Pokedex as #151. 

Special Research: A Mythical Discovery

In spring of 2018 Pokemon GO released a Special Research called A Mythical Discovery. Currently Mew is only obtainable in Pokemon Go by completing this series and catching Mew at the end of the Special Research. There is nothing to prepare for when facing to catch Mew. Just be aware that Mew can turn invisible and Mew can turn this on while you are catching it. Below is the order of task objectives for this Special Research you will need to complete in order to catch Mew. 

Task 1 Objectives 

  • Spin 5 PokeStops
  • Catch 10 Pokemon
  • Transfer 5 Pokemon
Rewards:
10 Great Balls, an Incubator, and 3 Lure Modules 

Task 2 Objectives 

  • Earn 2 Candies while walking with your buddy
  • Make 10 Great Throws
  • Hatch 3 Eggs
Rewards:
2,000 Stardust, 3 Incense, and 20 Great Balls

Task 3 Objectives 

  • Reach Level 15 
  • Battle in a Gym 2 times
  • Battle in 2 Raids
Rewards:
A Fast TM, a Charge TM, and 2 Star Pieces 

Task 4 Objectives 

  • Earn a Silver Kanto medal
  • Evolve 20 Pokemon
  • Earn 5 Candies while walking with your buddy
Rewards: 
4,000 Stardust, 3 Lure Modules, and 20 Great Balls 

Task 5 Objectives 

  • Catch Ditto
  • Make 20 Great Throws
  • Catch 10 Ghost Pokemon
Rewards:
A Premium Raid Pass, a Lucky Egg, and 15 Revives

Task 6 Objectives 

  • Reach Level 25
  • Battle in 10 Raids
  • Evolve a Magikarp 
Rewards:
6,000 Stardust, 5 Rare Candies, and 3 Incense 

Task 7 Objectives 

  • Catch 50 Pokemon while using a berry
  • Make 1 Excellent Curve Throw
  • Earn a Gold Kanto medal
Rewards: 
8,000 Stardust, 5 Great Balls, and a Mew encounter  

Task 8 Objectives 

  • Catch Mew
Rewards: 
10,000 Stardust, a Super Incubator, and 20 Mew Candy
